Insurance Authority warns against phishing mobile text messages

21 August 2024

The Insurance Authority today (21 August 2024) alerted the public to phishing mobile text messages from fraudsters who purport to be Bowtie Life Insurance Company Limited (Bowtie), an authorized insurer in Hong Kong, to defraud personal or payment information. Recipients of the messages were asked to call a suspicious phone number by clicking a hyperlink embedded in the text messages to cancel the payment related to certain insurance policies.

Bowtie has confirmed that it has no connection with such fraudulent mobile text messages. The case has been reported to the Hong Kong Police Force for further investigation. Anyone who has provided personal information to the fraudsters or has conducted any transactions through the fraudsters should contact Bowtie at 3008-8123 and report the case to the Hong Kong Police Force.
